Map Search is actually providing By Location and By Keyword options; although keyword seems to be working for username too, maybe a direct By Username option could be clearer.

Completely agree! And if I recall correctly, Couchsurfing.com lacked this feature. Would be great to implement!

I would expect in a map search that I could see a list of all hosts in the area displayed on the map. There is no list. Zooming in till you have just one host displayed and then looking at their info is not really efficient or useful.
I do not think that the feature could even be called a “map search” the way it presents at the moment.
A proper map search would be useful.
